The Confusion About the Names of Girl Scout Cookies

Are they Somoas or Caramel deLites?

My favorite girl scout cookie is the Somoas. I would always end up with several boxes between my wife and I. Recently, I have noticed that Somoas also come in a different name: Caramel deLites.

I will finally put an end to this confusion. This year, I ended up with both of these what I thought were re-badged cookies, however, there are significant differences between these two cookies.

Lets start the comparison:

The above is a side by side comparison between the two boxes. You can see from the photo above that the deLites are noticabily wider and a tad shorter. They try to trick you by using the same model with the same burnt fireman's helmet (weird).

The bottom view shows the difference in sizes between the boxes. Also, you can see these cookies are made by two different companies that are "baked by authority of Girl Scouts of the USA." (This probably explains the different names)

The nutritional content is the most telling. When you purchase the Somoas, you get more cookies for the buck. Each cookie is larger in the Somoas by 3 grams or 11%. Therefore, in each box: the Caramel deLites contains 448 grams of cookies compared to Somoas with 496 grams.

Bottom Line: The ABC Bakery (the makers of Carmel deLites) are taking you for a fool! They put less cookies in a larger box to make it seem like you are getting a better deal. To make the deLites (or deLies) cost equivalent to the good-ol' Somoas, they should be charging you $3.57 instead of the $4.
